Gujarat sun-cured tobacco

Leaf, scrap, lamina and dust from Gujarat

Typical Gujarat nicotine is about 4.1-4.7%. Dust is graded separately, from 1.0% to 4.0%. Moisture is not above 12% at loading.

Photographs are illustrative. A sample shows the actual material.

Leaf

Gujarat leaf, graded by body

Gujarat leaf is sun-cured: the leaf is laid on the open ground to cure. We grade it by body, full, heavy, medium and light, and the typical nicotine across all four is about 4.1-4.7%. Not every Gujarat lot suits smoking use, so only lots selected for a good smoking profile go to that use.

Ask for a sample of each body and test them side by side.

High-nicotine scrap

Gujarat scrap, sold by nicotine block

In Gujarat the scrap is the product itself: sun-cured Nicotiana tabacum, not a by-product. It is sold by nicotine block and mesh size. The four blocks run from 1.0% to 5.5%, and most Gujarat lots sit in the main stream at about 4.1-4.7%. Low chloride comes from procuring in the areas known to produce it.

Main stream

4.1-4.7% typical nicotine

Nicotine extraction, reconstituted sheet and blends that need a higher-nicotine component.

Lamina

Lamina from Gujarat leaf

Lamina is the leaf blade after threshing, with the stem taken out. From Gujarat leaf it carries the same typical nicotine as the leaf, about 4.1-4.7%.

Dust

Tobacco dust, graded by nicotine

Dust is the fine fraction from handling and processing, sold in six nicotine grades: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.0% (typical). Sand is typically below 0.5%. Every batch has its own certificate of analysis.

Dust grades and scrap blocks are two separate ladders. Do not read one against the other.

Flue-cured Virginia

FCV, flue-cured in barns

Two types from two states. We keep this section to what is confirmed.

Flue-cured Virginia

FCV from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka

Flue-cured Virginia is cured in barns, unlike the sun-cured Gujarat leaf. We offer two FCV types: NLS (Northern Light Soils) from Andhra Pradesh, and Mysore (Karnataka Light Soils) from Karnataka. With FCV, the scrap, stems and dust come out of threshing as by-products.

Season windows are typical and change with the year. See the crop calendar.
