Buyer FAQ
What buyers ask us before they order
Short answers on products, samples, testing, packing, documents and how an enquiry runs. If your question is not here, write to us and we will answer it.
Products and buyers
What do you sell?
We supply cured tobacco leaf, lamina, scrap, stems and dust, and feedstock for nicotine extraction. Leaf is sold whole by type and grade, lamina as threshed strips, scrap in several mesh sizes, stems whole or cut, and dust in six grades. The full table is on the products page.
Who do you sell to?
Business buyers only: manufacturers, traders, nicotine-extraction and industrial users. We do not supply consumers, and the site asks every visitor to confirm they are visiting for a business.
Which regions does the tobacco come from?
Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Flue-cured Virginia (FCV) comes from Andhra Pradesh (Northern Light Soils) and Karnataka (Mysore), and Gujarat leaf is sun-cured. All of it is 2026 crop, threshed, cleaned, sorted and graded in our own plant in Gujarat.
Which HS headings apply?
Whole leaf, not stemmed or stripped, is 2401.10, and lamina is 2401.20. Scrap, stems and dust come under 2401.30. Check the heading with your customs broker against your own tariff before you ship.
Samples
Can I get a sample before I order?
Yes. Tell us the product, how you intend to use it and the destination, and we send a sample so you can test before you commit. We settle sample size, courier and freight by email before asking for a delivery address. You can start on the sample request form.
What travels with a sample?
A specification sheet, with the figures stated per lot and the basis they are reported on (as-is or dry). We also ask about any import permit you need at the same time. That way you can test the sample against the sheet in your own laboratory.
Quality and laboratory
Do you have your own laboratory?
Yes. Lots are screened in our own laboratory in Gujarat before dispatch. These are screening values, not results to a CORESTA method, so read each figure together with the basis stated beside it. Our quality page sets out the method.
Do you issue a certificate of analysis?
Every batch of dust has its own certificate of analysis. For leaf, lamina, scrap and stems, a test report is available on request or with samples, and a third-party laboratory certificate can be arranged if you want an independent figure.
Do you keep a retained sample?
Yes. A sealed sample is kept from each lot, so a later question can be put to the same material.
What happens if my laboratory result differs from yours?
Laboratories can differ slightly, so the contract names the test method, basis and tolerance. If a result is questioned, the sealed retained sample gives both sides the same material, which is tested at a third-party laboratory agreed at the time.
Are you certified or accredited?
We do not claim laboratory accreditation or product certification. We are a registered exporter with the Tobacco Board of India, and registration details are available on request.
What is the moisture?
Moisture is not above 12% at loading. That is a maximum, and the confirmed figure for a lot comes with its specification sheet.
Packing and documents
How is the tobacco packed?
Leaf, lamina and scrap go into new C48 cartons of about 150 kg each. Dust goes into HDPE bags of 25-40 kg. Stems and extraction feedstock are packed in cartons or bags as agreed, and every pack carries lot marking so the lot can be matched to its specification.
Which documents come with a shipment?
The contract and the destination decide the set. A commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading are usual, with a certificate of origin, phytosanitary and fumigation certificates where the destination or contract requires them. The export documents page has the full list.
Who holds the import permit?
The importer. We prepare the commercial and shipping documents and send you what your authority asks for, but import permits, licences and customs registration stay with the buyer. Send us your authority’s checklist and we work from it.
Enquiry and ordering
How does an enquiry proceed?
You send the product, quantity, destination and any specification that matters. We reply with options and, if you want one, a sample. Once you have tested it, we agree the specification and shipment in writing before anything is packed. The ordering and shipping page lists the ten steps.
How quickly will you reply?
Within one to two working days (India time). You can write to contact@indileaf.co, phone +91 80001 50037, or use the enquiry form.
Sourcing and visits
Can I visit the contracted farmer group?
Yes. Customers can visit the contracted group. Ask us and we will arrange it.
Do you follow the Sustainable Tobacco Programme?
We run practices aligned with the tobacco industry’s Sustainable Tobacco Programme (STP) with our contracted farmers, and implement them for customers who require it. We do not claim STP certification, formal enrolment or an STP assessment. See Sustainability and STP for what the practices cover.
Still have a question?
Send the product, quantity and destination, or just the question. We reply within one to two working days (India time). Indileaf supplies unmanufactured tobacco to business buyers only.
